Ver Woert, G. Roxie – 1932-2010

Roxie Ver Woert, 77, of Newton died on Friday, Sept. 17, 2010, at the Hospice of Jasper County’s Monarch Wing in Newton.
A funeral service took place at 11 a.m. today at the Newton Church of The Way, 2300 S. 3rd Ave. E. in Newton. Burial was at the Newton Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton.
Memorials to the Newton Church of The Way or to Hospice of Jasper County may be left at the funeral home or at the church on the morning of the service.
Survivors include his wife, June of Newton four sons, David Ver Woert (Darcey Schmitt) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Daniel (Annette) Ver Woert of Shenandoah, Iowa, Mark (Kami) Ver Woert of Castle Rock, Colo., and James (Eileen) Ver Woert of De Soto, Iowa; his 13 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Service arrangements were handled by the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.

G. Roxie Ver Woert was born December 23, 1932.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Hattie (Miedema) Ver Woert; three brothers, Henry, Andrew, and his twin brother, Rex; and three sisters, Gertrude Ver Woert, Nellie Ver Woert, and Hattie Slings.
Roxie served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War.
Roxie was a Security Guard at the Maytag Company for 28 years, and at the same time he owned & operated Roxie’s Campground south of Kellogg. Roxie had also been a truck driver for many years. His last job was as a driver for Progress Industries.
Roxie was a Charter Member and has been a member for 52 years of the Community Reformed Church, now known as the Newton Church of The Way. He enjoyed being with friends and he never knew a stranger, and Roxie loved having his sons and grandchildren around.
