Something About Greencastle
Perhaps you would like a description of our burg. Those who wish, may read the following. Hoping that no discontent will follow if we omit some persons’ names:
To begin with, we have two merchants, viz: W. B. Fuller and H. Woods, who both carry a complete line of general merchandise etc. Henry Nelgey, our harness maker, has a complete assortment in his life of goods. We have two gardeners, H. J. Kaldenberg and Phillip Ball. Mr. Kaldenberg is also a broom manufacturer, as is also Mr. Ralph Mason. Martha Dickey is a carpet weaver. She is a poor woman, depending on her occupation for a livelihood, and richly deserves your patronage.
Jas. W. Lee is our watch and clock repairer, doing his work substantially and at reduced prices.
Messrs. Emanuel Frey, Geo A. Rumbaugh and Ralph Moses, are our carpenters. They all do good work and we can recommend them to all.
We have a large school house, a spacious church, and a post office that gives us a daily mail, that which we all desire. We must not forget to mention the two flag-poles, one at the school house yard and the other on the square, where we generously hang out the stars and stripes on all legal holidays.
