Paul Ralston 1911-1990

Funeral services for Paul J. Ralston, 79, Maquoketa, were held Oct. 26, 1990 at Sacred Heart Catholic church in Maquoketa, with the Rev. William McLaughlin officiating. Burial was in the Sacred Heart cemetery, with military honors by Timber City American Legion Post No. 75 and O'Connor-Regenwether Post No. 3633 Veterans of Foreign Wars of Maquoketa.

Mr. Ralston died Oct. 24 at the Jackson County Public Hospital in Maquoketa following a lingering illness.

The son of Francis L. and Johannah Kane Ralston, he was born July 16, 1911 in Baldwin. He married Althea Josephine Morehead June 1, 1937 in Maquoketa.

Mr. Ralston worked at the former Rosenberg's Grocery for many years and at the Maquoketa post office for many years, retiring in 1972. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic church, Sacred Heart Men's Assocation, Father Loosbrock Council No. 8269 of the Knights of Columbus, Timber City American Legion Post No. 75 and O'Connor-Regenwether Post No. 3633 VFW, all of Maquoketa. He served in the Navy during World War II.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Paula (Mrs. William) Van Dorn, Wheatland; a son, Marty Ralston, Cedar Rapids; 4 grandchildren; and 3 sisters, Sarah Burmeister, Lost Nation and Lucille Ralston and Irene Ralston, both of Maquoketa. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
