SABULA - MRS. LENA NAGEL
Mrs. Lena Nagel, 88, of Sabula, died Saturday night in the home of her son, John, of Sabula. She had been discharged Friday from a Clinton hospital where she had been a surgical patient.
The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Calvary Lutheran Church in Sabula, with the Rev. Henry Dirks officiating. A 1 p.m. family prayer service will be held at the church. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Allen funeral home in Sabula.
Pallbearers will be Gary Geronzin, William Nagel Jr., Larry Nagel, Arlo Krabbenhoft, Ronald Holms, and Wayne Vyncke.
Mrs. Nagel was born on Oct. 9, 1881 in Schleswig, Holstein, Germany to Carl and Margaret Bitker. She married John Nagel on Sept. 15, 1897 in Clinton. They had farmed near Sabula until they retired in 1922 and moved to town. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the Calvary Church.
Survivors include three sons, August and John, both of Sabula, and William of Miles; three daughters, Mrs. John (Sophia) Krabbenhoft of Detroit Lakes, Minn., Mrs. Margaret Butterfield of Sabula and Mrs. Charles (Grace) Creeley of Fulton, Ill.; 19 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Rose Lund of Savanna and two brothers, August and John, both of Clear Lake, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband, an infant child, a grandson, and seven brothers and sisters.
