THE NEW IN IOWA

After being out twenty-four hours and not being able to reach a decision, the jury at Maquoketa which has been hearing the trial of George Morehead, was discharged by Judge Brannan. Morehead had been on trial charged with the murder of Albert Rowland, whose body was found lying in the road near his home, eight miles northwest of Maquoketa, on the morning of April 8. Morehead was a neighbor with whom the deceased had had some trouble. The evidence in the case was wholly circumstantial. The jury stood nine for acquittal. The failure of the jury to agree will necessitate a new trial.
