Gary Ray Greiner, 77, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2024, after a brief illness. He was surrounded by his four children and many of his 14 grandchildren in his final days.

To celebrate Gary’s life, friends are welcome to gather on Saturday, March 30, 2024 from 11 AM to 3 PM at Blackstone Restaurant, 503 Westbury Drive in Iowa City.

Gary was born on November 9, 1946, in Keota, Iowa, to Cyril and Loretta Greiner. He graduated from Keota High School in 1964 and joined the U.S. Army National Guard. He later attended the University of Iowa, where he earned a bachelor's degree in general science.

Gary had many skills, interests, and passions in life, including farming, construction, cooking, dancing, playing the guitar, singing, health, and travel. Curious about the world, Gary visited Italy, Spain, France, Iceland, Peru, Nicaragua, Mexico, the Philippines, and many places in the United States.

Gary was a loyal and supportive father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, who always had a story and a laugh to share. He was known for his courage, honesty, warmth, sense of humor, and generosity. Gary inspired those around him with his strength and eternal optimism.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Cyril and Loretta Greiner, and sister, Donna Jean.

He is survived by his siblings, Jerome Greiner (Marlene) of Cedar Rapids, IA and Marvin Greiner (Jeannie) of Keota, IA; and Kathy Brinning (Roger) of Keota, IA, his former wife, friend and mother of his children, Marcia Greiner of Iowa City, IA, and his children, Tyson Greiner (Amy) of Waukee, IA, Trisha Troia (Jason) of Omaha, NE, Thad Greiner (Bobbi) of Omaha, NE, and Tory Greiner (Kalie) of Geneva, IL, and his grandchildren, Ben, Dane, Alex, Jovi, Cassie, Cavin, Brinley, Nolan, Carly, Andi, Nile, Beckham, Whitney and Reid.
