Anna Kathryn Miller passed away March 2, 2024 at the University of Iowa Health Care at the age of 87.

Kay was born June 9, 1936 in North Liberty, the daughter of Robert and Julia (Krob) Cerhan. She graduated from Oxford High School in 1954.

She married Willard Jerry Thurman on July 31, 1956 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oxford. They had six children Barbara Thurman, Steven (Cindy) Thurman, Robert (Debra) Thurman, Edward (Lori) Thurman, Larry (Denise) Thurman, and Lisa (Stephen) Fyfe. After Jerry died in 1970, Kay and the kids continued farming.

On November 26, 1975 Kay married Robert (Bob) Miller and became stepmother to Janet (Bruce) Palmer, Ralph (Anna), and Dan (Barbara) Miller.

In addition to farming, Kay worked for fifteen years as a CNA at English Valley Care Center, was a volunteer with both the North English Community Center and Hospice for several years.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in North English and the Altar and Rosary Society.

When they were able, Kay and Bob liked to travel and took several bus trips to Branson, MO to take in the shows. Over the years she enjoyed sewing, gardening, crafting, card club and spending time with family and friends. In recent years, she did many jigsaw puzzles and loved to play solitaire and other games on her iPad.

Kay is survived by her five children, two stepchildren, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, daughter-in-law Cindy (Mike) Davis, step daughter-in-law Mary Lou Miller, and sisters-in-law MaryAnn Cerhan, and Beverly Miller.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Jerry Thurman and Robert Miller, brother Robert Cerhan, twin brother Keith Cerhan, sister Rita Fields, son Steven Thurman, step daughter Janet Palmer, grandchild Christina Thurman, and step grandchild Lewis Palmer.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in North English. Burial will be in the North English Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday, from 9:00 am until service time at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family. Powell Funeral Home in North English is caring for Kay and her family.
