Mr. and Mrs. Gillett are among our oldest residents and had the destinction{sic} of being the first Howard county couple to be united in marriage, going to Auburn, in Fayette county for that purpose.
OBITUARY.

She was the sixth of a family of eight children Her mother died when she was but fourteen years of age and to her fell the care of a father and two younger brothers. In 1855 they came to Howard county, traveling by ox team, and pre-empted their farm on what is now the town of Cresco.
On February 21, 1856, she was untied in marriage with Edmund Gillett and they settled on the farm, a part of which is still their home.
To this union six children were born—Hattie, wife of J. B. Caward, who died on February 7, 1890p; Fred, of Spicer, Minn.; Arthur, of Dell Rapids, S. D.; E. D. of Lowell, Ariz.; Nellie, wife of A. J.
