Mrs. Hugh M. Griffith passed away Wednesday, Sept. 29th, at the home of her son, Mr. Robert M. Griffith, Bangor, Sask., Canada, where she had gone to spend the summer with her son and family. Mrs. Griffith had been ailing for several months, and the Heavenly call came at the above date to leave this world for a better one—“For to be with Christ is far better.”
Her maiden name was Mary Evans. She was born at a place called Rhydygarnedd, Towyn, Marionethshire, North Wales, January, 1844 She was united in marriage with the late Mr. Hugh M. Griffith, Ded. 29, 1871 Five children were born of this happy union, all of whom are living and mourn the loss of a dear mother. The children are: Robert M. Griffith, of Bangor, Canada; Mrs. Jennie Paschke and Evan E. Griffith, of Howard, S. D.; Mrs. Winifred K. Williams and Mrs. Mary E. Hall, of Winfred, S. D.
The family emigrated to this country in the spring of 1886, making their home for seven eyars at Long Creek, Iowa, when they moved to Winfred, S. D. In 1905, they moved to Lime Springs. In 1907, our departed sister met with a great loss through the death of her beloved husband. Since then she had been making her home with her children and received every care that loving hands could do.
Mrs. Griffith had been brought up in a religious home and in the church and always took a deep interest in religious affairs. Always faithful to her religious duties, and had given herself to the Saviour, and consecrated her life in His service. She proved to be a faithful wife and mother and a kind neighbor, and was highly respected in every community in which she made her home. The children and other members of the bereaved family have the sympathy of the community in their hour of sorrow.
Services were held at the home of her son, Robert M. Griffith, conducted by Rev. D. T. Davis. The son brought the remains here for burial which took place last Sunday afternoon when service was held at the Welsh church, Rev. D. Edwards officiating. The remains were laid to rest at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
