Walter C. Puffer, age 88, of Cresco, Iowa, died on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at Harmony Waterloo in Waterloo, Iowa.

Walter Charles Puffer was born on September 2, 1937, son of Joseph and Marcella (Tupy) Puffer in Spillville, Iowa. He graduated from Notre Dame High School in Cresco. After graduation, Walter enlisted with the United States Air Force. During his enlistment, Walter competed against 5,000 Airman for “Airman of the Month”. Upon receiving the title, he received a letter from the Governor of Iowa congratulating him on the honor. Part of his military career was spent in Greenland; where he taught new arrivals how to survive in the weather there. Walter attended college in Sacramento, CA for Mechanical Engineering. He worked for 34 years in Waste Management. The last 5 ½ years before retiring Walter was a supervisor for 6,000 employees.

He is survived by his 2 sons David (Lynn) Puffer of Arizona and Joseph (Louie) Puffer of South Korea; daughter-in-law Aya Puffer of California; 2 grandchildren Julian and Marina; sister Marcie (Dean) Ryan of Cresco, Iowa; and brother Jim (Cindy) Puffer of Decorah, Iowa.

Walter was preceded in death by his son Dan Puffer and 2 brothers Joseph and Dan.
