OBER.
Henry E. Ober was born on Dec. 31, 1834, in Topsam Vermont, coming wet in 1852 and to Howard county in 1856, filing on land where the city of Lime Springs is now located. After selling his homestead he bought a farm at the Old Town. Was married Nov. 29, 1860, to Esther Knowlton. Three children were born, two dying in infancy. One daughter, Mrs. Seldon Crockett with whom he made his home for the past year at Rugby, North Dakota, survives him, his wife having died four years ago, on Dec. 8, 1914. Mr. Ober passed away at the home of his daughter, on the evening of the 3rd of Dec. 1918 and the body was brought to Lime Springs to be laid to rest beside the loved ones who have preceded him. The funeral services was held on Saturday morning Dec. 7, at 10 o’clock, Rev. G. M. Shoemaker having charge of the service and members of the M. E. church choir saneg “Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me,” and “The Sweet Bye and Bye.”
Mr. Ober is remembered by many as a man of integrity and a kind neighbor. A strange co-incidence in connection with the passing of this old settler was that his body was laid away in the same cemetery only four hours before that of anotherold{sic} friends and neighbor, Mr. Reynolds, whose body was brought here for burial from Spokane, Washington.
The body of Mr. Ober was accompanied by his daughter, Mrs. Crockett and her husband, from Rugby, North Dakota, to Lime Springs.
