Dolores T. Pecinovsky, age 95, died on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, on her farm near Protivin, Iowa.

Born on February 14, 1929, in Spillville, Iowa, to Arthur and Mary (Vachta) Fisher, Dolores attended St. Wenceslaus Catholic School until the 10th grade. Growing up Dolores babysat almost all the children in the Spillville area. On June 19, 1951, Dolores married Ralph Pecinovsky at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, to this union were two children Cynthia and Ronald.

Dolores grew vegetable gardens in the summer and enjoyed canning the produce in the fall. She butchered hundreds of chickens every year, usually in her house dress and snow boots. Dolores was efficient at butchering turtles for homemade turtle soup. She was young at heart and allowed her grandchildren to pull her behind the 4-wheeler while riding on a sled. Dolores helped them put together puzzles, watched family play cards, sent the grandchildren home in clean clothes, and never let you go to bed mad. Dolores made sure the calves were bottle fed, oftentimes before making supper at night. She liked to watch church on TV, “The Price is Right”, “Wheel of Fortune”, and listening to Mollie B. Dolores and Ralph spoke Czech fluently, and often spoke it around the family whether they understood it or not. She loved talking on the phone with her friends in Czech, drinking coffee with her neighbors, and shopping at the Amish grocery store. She loved a slow afternoon going for a drive and stopping somewhere for ice cream.

Dolores is survived by her two children, Cindy Larson of Decorah, and Ron (Valerie) Pecinovsky of Protivin; grandchildren Susie Larson of Des Moines, IA, Katie (Kyle) Stika of Protivin, IA, Steve Larson of Decorah, IA, Tommy Pecinovsky of Protivin, IA, Timmy (Haley Gossman) Pecinovsky of Protivin, IA; great grandchildren Bella, Kole, Josie Stika, Tate, Harlie, and Maliyah Larson; step grandsons Scott Thorne and James Thorne; step great grandson Lyle Thorne; brother Jim (Joan) Fisher of Decorah, IA; sister Peggy Reicks of Spillville, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
