Norma A. Reicks, 91, died Thursday, February 22, 2024 at Accura Healthcare of Cresco with her family by her side.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 29, at Notre Dame Catholic Church with Father Jacob Rouse officiating. The Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 9:30 a.m. with visitation to follow until 11:00 a.m. at the church before the service on Thursday. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Norma Ann Scheidel was born on September 25, 1932, with twin brother Norman, to Rudy and Angeline (Barnes) Scheidel in Calmar, Iowa. She graduated from Cresco High School, and attended St. Mary’s School of Nursing from 1951 to 1954. On June 23, 1955, Norma married Irven Reicks at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Schley, Iowa. While Irven was in the Army the couple spent time in Virginia, Missouri, and Texas. They lived in Waterloo, IA for a year, and Norma worked for the hospital there. During this time Norma and Irven welcomed their first daughter, DaRhonda. In 1957, they purchased a farm and moved back to Cresco; where Brenda and Randy were born and completed the family.
Norma continued to work as a nurse for many years before becoming a farm wife and partner in their dairy farm. On the farm Norma loved to cook, plant flower and vegetable gardens, and share her harvest with family and friends. Norma was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease over 25 years ago. She did not let the disease slow her down. Norma and Irven were snowbirds who enjoyed wintering in Arizona, and playing with their card clubs.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years Irven Reicks; daughter Brenda (Kevin) Valley; son Randy (Karry) Reicks; grandsons Andrew (Krystal) Schatz, Aaron (Melissa) Schatz, Tanner Reicks, and Skylar Reicks; great grandchildren Lucas and Lynden Schatz and Nolan and Alanna Schatz; son-in-law Thomas Schatz; and brothers Norman and Dale Scheidel.
Norma was preceded in death by her daughter DaRhonda, grandson Timothy Schatz, parents Rudy and Angeline Scheidel, and brothers and sisters-in-law.
Norma’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Accura Healthcare of Cresco and Howard County Community Hospice for the excellent care provided to Norma.
