Joan Louise Hoppe, age 81, of Cresco, IA, passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at Evans Memorial Home surrounded by her loving family.

Joan was born in Winneshiek County, Iowa on August 31, 1942, to Ernie and Nora (Olson) Good. Joan graduated from Decorah High School.

She married Earl Hoppe on December 17, 1960, in Spring Valley, MN. To this union they had three children: Loran, Gerald and Gina.

Joan was employed at Evans Memorial Home for 28 years. She enjoyed working at the nursing home and built lifelong friendships with the co-workers and residents of the home.

She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco. Joan had a strong faith and it guided her through any trials presented to her throughout her life.

Joan loved to spend time with family and friends. Baking cookies was both a hobby and passion for Joan. There were always homemade cookies in the house no matter when you would visit her. She also enjoyed doing word searches, playing board games, sitting outside on the glider rocker visiting with neighbors and going with the weekly coffee group.

Joan is survived by two children Loran (Diane) Hoppe of Rochester, MN and Gina (Jeff) Moen of Grimes, IA; seven grandchildren: James (Cari) Hoppe of Cresco, Jason (Melissa) Hoppe of Farmington, MN, Kayla (Jason) Quarders of Prairie Farm, WI, Tanya (Jayton) Hoppe of Rochester, MN, Brandon (Alyssa) Hoppe of Jacksonville, NC, Jacob (Brenna) Moen of West Des Moines, IA and Rachel Moen of Grimes, IA; 18 great-grandchildren; sibling Norma Smith of Cresco, brother-in-law Wayne Halstead of Cresco, sister-in-law LaVonne (Kenneth) Fishell of Cumming, GA and brother-in-law Wayne Roberts of Farmington, MN; and several nieces and nephews.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Howard County Community Hospice or Immanuel Lutheran Church.

The family would like to thank the employees of Howard County Community Hospice and Evans Memorial Home for the loving and compassionate care that Joan received these past few weeks.
