Nov. 17th being the 30th anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. George Dell, a few of the old timers in a quiet way handed the word around and about 80 in all of the old friends, neighbors and relatives completely took this worthy couple by surprise when they were about to retire for a good nights rest. After George and Lizzie realized what was up, said “Take the house and if you have any music with you get it around.” Tables, chairs and sofas began to move out and then for a time we surely did have an old and young fashioned time. About 12 o’clock the kitchen fire was started and a good cup of coffee and eatables were served, and the supper was grand and in abundance. After supper, Mr. and Mrs. Dell were presented with a set of pearl handled fruit knives and a pearl handled pen-knife, also a stick pin to Mr. Dell and a brooch set with pearls to Mrs. Dell.
Along toward the wee hours, we began to make a break for home, wishing Mr. and Mrs. Dell happiness and prosperity until we return again to celebrate their Golden wedding. George and Lizzie thanked all hands and hoped we all had a good time. Yes, a good time would be putting it very mild—it was a night long to be remembered.
