Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Clark Celebrate Golden Wedding Anniversary.
On August 20, 1864, at Elliota, Minnesota, Ralph Clark, of Winneshiek County, and Meda Schofield, of New Oregon, were united in marriage by James Kelley, a Justice of the Peace, and the touch of romance to the affair was that the young couple were the participants in a run-a-way marriage, and through a long married life neither has regretted the somewhat unconventional marriage.
After their marriage, they resided in Winneshiek, near Kendallville, for thirty-three years when seventeen years ago they moved to Cresco, where yesterday in their comfortable cottage on Third Avenue East, surrounded by relatives and friends to the number of about fifty, their Golden Wedding anniversary was appropriately celebrated.
Among those present were their three sons, Leslie, of Minneapolis, and his wife, W. F. and wife, of Preston, Minnesota, and O. W. and family, of Cresco; a daughter, Mrs. A. R. Babcock, of Washington, was unable to be present.
The home was tastily decorated in yellow and white, colors appropriate to the occasion, and the guests were served with frappe, ice cream and cake.
The occasion was primarily a quiet gathering of relatives and friends, but Mrs. Clark was presented with a fine, gold-headed parasol, and Mr. Clark with a gold signet ring by the assembled guests.
Mr. and Mrs. Clark are both enjoying good health and it is the wish of their many friends that many more years of life may be given them in which to enjoy the earthly companionship of each other, their children and their friends.
