Elizabeth Jane Booth Smith

Elizabeth Jane Booth Smith was born in Senicaville, (Senecaville) Ohio November 15th, 1833 and departed this life Jan 22, 1911 in Mt Pleasant, Iowa. Che came with her parents to Henry Country Iowa in 1860.
On June 16th, 1863, she was united in marriage to Mr. J.T.(P.) Smith. To them were given five children: Rosa who passed away in 1886; Bertram E of Mt. Pleasant Iowa: Mrs Jane Conner of near Swedesburg Town: J.H. Smith of Washington, Iowa; Minnie E. wife of Bert Fidler (Fiedler) who died April, 9th, 1901 and two step-sons, W.L. of Mt. Pleasant and J.M. of Moning Sun. Mrs Smith also leaves a sister, Mrs. Ann Veitch of Ottumwa, the last of a family of eleven.
Mrs. Smith was converted when 15 years old and united with the Methodist Episcopal Church and for the past 17 years has been a member of the First Methodist Church of Mt. Pleasant.
Mrs. Smith was a woman of quiet retiring deposition but possessed a beautiful spirit. Her thoughts were ever of others and her many deed of helpfulness and kindnefs (kindness) made her life a blessing to many revealing at the same time those higher qualities of life and soul which give beauty to character and value to service. Ripe in experience and years, she has been gathered to rest of the faithful.

Note: Elizabeth Jane Booth had an illegitimate son in 1859, Charles Edwin Booth, who lived with various relatives until Elizabeth Jane married John P Smith in 1863. Charles is not mentioned in her obits. Charles is mentioned in one of John P Smith's obits as a step-son.
