BRADFORD-Mary Irene Sanders, 80, of Bradford died Sunday, July 14, 2002, at her home. Services will be held Wednesday, July 17 at 10:30 a.m. at the Hampton United Methodist Church with burial in the Hampton Cemetery. Rev. Jerry Miller will officiate.
Mary was born Oct. 31, 1921, in Ingham Township, Franklin County, to Arthur and Evelyn Schuler Scarrow. She attended Hansell School and on Aug. 19, 1939, she married Horace Craig. He died in a farm accident on Aug. 5, 1943, and they had two children, William and Mary Jo. On June 12, 1948, she married W.D. "Bill" Sanders in Chapin. They had two children, Randall and LaVerne. She was a member the Hampton Methodist Church and the Bradford Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher for 16 years and superintendent for 14 years. She was a newspaper reporter for the Hampton Chronicle, Ackley World Journal and the Iowa Falls Times-Citizen newspapers for many years. Mary was a Studio Girl representative, a Salvation Army volunteer, loved to cook and bake cookies and pies, and make noodles. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, playing cards and was an avid sports fan for all her family's activities.
She is survived by her husband, Bill; a son, Bill and wife Shirley; a daughter, Mary Jo; and a son, Randy and wife Sherry all of Bradford; a son, Verne, and wife Diane of Hampton; a brother, Lyle Scarrow, and wife Elsie of Dumont; three sisters-in-law, Elva Scarrow of Mason City, Iva Scarrow of Minneapolis, Minn., and Mildred Craig of Mason City; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; two brothers, Floyd and Ed; a sister, Mona Wilson; a son-in-law, Roney Mulford and a grandson, Tony Johnson.
Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home of Hampton was in charge of arrangements.
