HAMPTON-Joseph C. Schear, 98, of Hampton, died Monday, May 20, 2002, at Franklin General Hospital Nursing Facility at Hampton. Services will be held Friday, May 24 at 10:30 a.m. at Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton with burial in the Hampton Cemetery. Pastor David Nelson will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.Joseph was born March 15, 1904, at Hampton, to Jacob and Cora Nafe Schear. He attended rural Franklin County schools. On Sept. 3, 1929, he married Oneta Worley in Charles City. He worked for many years as a mechanic for Franklin County. He was a member of the Church of Christ at Hampton. He enjoyed making bird houses, gardening and riding motorcycles with his grandchildren.
He is survived by four daughters, Joan Folkerts and Sharon Schear, both of Hampton, Janet Tomkins of Livonia, Mo., and Marilyn Nelsen of Marion; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and two sisters.
