Jake Sweers
1924-1998

Services for Jake Sweers, 73, Woden, who died Thursday, March 12, 1998, at the Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, were held Monday, March 16, 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Britt, with Rev. Robert D. Dodge officiating.

Music was provided by organist, Tammy Johnson, who accompanied vocalist, Jim Sweers. Ushers were Scott Johnson and Dennis Zuehl.

Casket bearers were Dan Sweers, Ron Sweers, Phil Sweers, Larry Sweers, Donald Moen and Richard Schaefer.

Burial was at the Evergreen Cemetery, Britt, with Ewing Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.

Jake Sweers, the son of John and Sena Smidt Sweers, was born June 27, 1924, in Britt. He attended country schools in the area. He helped his father run the family farm, and at the age of 17, his father passed away.

January 25, 1950, he married Margaret Norem in Albert Lea, MN. The couple lived on the family farm until the spring of 1952, when they moved to a farm four miles north of Wesley, where they lived until moving to the current farm in August of 1985. They farmed there until Jake retired in the fall of 1996.

Jake's favorite pastimes were fishing, bowling, playing cards and camping with friends and family. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Britt.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret of Woden; his children and their families, Gary and his wife, Wendy and their children, Greg, Lisa and Alan of Valrico, FL, John and his wife, Conni Sweers and their children, Erin, Kelly, Scott and Chris of Wesley, Linda and her husband, Greg Kohl and their children, Molly, Amy and Jeffrey of Mound, MN, Jean and her husband, Mac Beukema and their children, Jessie and Lacey of Des Moines; three sisters, Carrie Schaefer of Britt, Lucille DeWaard of Corwith and Janet Moldenhauer and her husband, Clint of Forest City; four brothers, Louie and his wife, Joan of Britt, Ben and his wife, Mary Rose of Britt, Elmer and his wife, Francine of Britt and Herman and his wife, Sally of Britt.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
