1906-1997Services for Gerald Treu, 90, of Garner, who died Sunday, Jan. 19, 1997, at Concord Care Center in Garner, will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 22, 1997, at the United Methodist Church in Garner with Rev. Robert T. Ellis as officiant.
Mrs. Richard Johnson, organist, will accompany Bill Renner, soloist. Ushers will be Marvin Schoneman and Maynard Schoneman.
Honorary bearers will be Clayton Lincicum, Kenneth Lincicum, Ron Franks, David Punke, Norman Juhl and Duane Reese.
Active bearers will be Lawrence Pinneke, Mark Juhl, Willis Davison, Craig Clement, Doug Clement and Joel Punke.
Burial will be in Concord Township Cemetery in Garner. Visitation will be an hour and a half before the service at the United Methodist Church in Garner. If you are unable to attend the services, cards, may be sent to Gerald Treu, in care of Lawrence and Merna Pinneke, 1925 290th St., Garner, IA. 50438.
Gerald Herman Treu, the son of Gustav and Margaret (Danekas) Treu, was born October 23, 1906 at Milford, NE. He attended the rural schools and then graduated from Milford High School. He also attended a business college in Lincoln, NE.
June 17, 1930, he married Fern Hattie Zimmerman at her parents home in DeWitt, NE. To this union, three sons were born, Gaylord, and twins, Roger and Rollin. They lived in Milford where they owned and operated the Treu Grocery Store. In 1939, they moved to Independence, the following year to Cedar Rapids, in 1942 to Clear Lake, to a farm north of Garner in 1954, into Garner in 1984 and to Prairie View Apartments, December 18, 1990. Due to ill health, Gerald had moved to Concord Care Center in November of 1996. Gerald had worked as a meat cutter at Marv's Super Market and Bowen Food Center in Forest City for many years. He enjoyed reading, traveling, hunting and fishing.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Welcome Sunday School Class and Garner Senior Citizens.
He is survived by four grandchildren, Dennis Treu, Tim Treu, Steve Treu and Linda Treu; nine great-grandchildren; two daughters-in-law, Marjorie Treu Watson of Denver, CO, and Didie Treu Van Andel and her husband, Andy from Canada; and special friends, Lawrence and Merna Pinneke of Garner.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Fern Treu, May 11, 1993; three sons, Gaylord Treu, in December of 1959, Roger Treu and August of 1977 and Rollin W. Treu, December 24, 1979; his parents; a brother, John Treu; and a sister, Margaret McCarthy.
