Richard Gouge Sr.
1934-1998Services for Richard Gouge Sr 64, of Garner, who died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, at North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City were held 10:30 a.m., Friday, Nov. 13, at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, Garner, with the Rev. Kay Hooper of the United Methodist Church officiating.
Music was provided by Beverly Cataldo.
Casket bearers were Pete Gouge, Merle John Gouge Jr., Michael Gouge, David Gouge, Julia Pigman, Becky Kirschbaum, Jeremy Gouge and Steve Gouge.
Interment was held in Concord Township Cemetery. Visitation was held Thursday at the funeral chapel.
Richard Carson Gouge Sr., the son of David and Alice Blanche (Stockwell) Gouge Sr., was born March 9, 1934, at Britt. He attended various schools in north Iowa and went to Barber's college. He owned and operated his own trucks traveling throughout the United States. He then was employed as a mechanic supervisor for several companies with the last being Evans Dedicated Systems out of Maywood, CA. In 1992, he retired and moved to Garner.
Richard was married twice; first to Marilyn G. Babcock, who died in the early 1960's, and later to Lorraine Elizabeth Pelteir Butler. He enjoyed the trucking business.
He is survived by his children, Richard Gouge Jr. and his wife, Cory of Denver, CO, Larry Gouge of Garner, Mark Gouge and his wife, Wanda of Garner, Mary Elizabeth Calvert and her husband, Chris of Sparta. TN; three step-children, Roberta Ray Standsbury of Pomona, CA, Maureen Walton of Squamish, Canada, and Michelle of Denver, CO; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Merle Gouge and his wife, Marian of Garner; and his former wife, Liz Butler of Garner.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marilyn Gouge; an infant son, Gerald Gouge; parents; brothers, Loren Gouge, October 18, 1948, Harold Gouge, May 30, 1974, David Gouge, November 20, 1988, William Gouge and Robert Gouge, March 10, 1989; and two sisters, Kathryn Brass, June 19, 1979, and Betty Sittin, May 9, 1985.
