Charles Holecek
1896-1996

Services for Charles Holecek, 100, of Garner, who died Sunday, April 28, 1996, at Concord Care Center in Garner were held 1:30 p.m., Wednesday May 1, at the United Methodist Church in Garner with Rev. Robert T. Ellis as officiant.

Mrs. Richard Johnson was organist. Ushers were Marvin Schoneman and Maynard Schoneman.

Casket bearers were Robert Malek, Don Trca, Bob Nedved, Jr., Don Hamilton, Roger Halfpop and Randy Holecek.

Burial was at Concord Township Cemetery in Garner. Graveside military rites were conducted by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit. Visitation was Tuesday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner.

Charles Holecek, the son of Joseph and Theresa (Horalek) Holecek, was born March 8, 1896, on the family farm northwest of Garner. He attended the rural schools of Garfield Township.

March 4, 1925, he married Marie Ehrhardt at the United Methodist parsonage in Garner. He farmed for many years in partnership with his brother, Otto, retiring in 1954. The farm has been in the family name for over 100 years. Charles served nine years on the Hayfield Consolidated School Board. He also served his country in W.W. I, landing in France shortly before the Armistice. He was one of the last two surviving W.W. I veterans of Gifford Olson Post in Garner. He received his W.W. I Commemorative Medal in 1993 and was very proud of his 75 years of membership in the American Legion.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing throughout the years.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Garner American Legion.

He is survived by his daughter, Phyllis Nedved and her husband, Robert of Britt: two sons, Glen Holecek and his wife, Darlene of Balsam Lake, WI, and Clyde Holecek and his wife, Connie of Garner; eight grandchildren, Patricia Paulson, Jeani Zigmant, Linda Johnson, Robert A. Nedved Jr., Debra Arneson, Lori Tyler, Steve Holecek and Randy Holecek; 10 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Holecek, December 6, 1976; a grandson-in-law, Jerry Paulson; his parents; two sisters, Stella Palensky and Bessie Clifton; and six brothers, John Holecek, James Holecek, Joseph Holecek, Edward Holecek, Otto Holecek and Louis Holecek.
