1897-1999Services for Nettie Roths 102, of Garner, who died Monday, April 26, 1999, at Concord Care Center in Garner, were held 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 30, at the United Methodist Church in Goodell with Rev. Curtis DeVance as officiant.
Mrs. Carl Kuhlers, organist, accompanied soloist, Lance Arnold. Ushers were Larry Langlitz and Gerald Burk.
Casket bearers were Dan Wagner, Randy Ennen, Bob Carpenter, Josh Carpenter, Joe Siems and Chris Loers.
Burial was held in the Amsterdam Township Cemetery east of Goodell. Visitation was held Thursday, at Cataldo Funeral Chapel at 160 E. 4th St. in Garner.
Nettie Gertrude Roths, the daughter of Frederick William and Flora Zenobia (Christie) Bachman, was born February 9, 1897, on a farm near Goodell, in Avery Township. She attended the rural schools around Goodell and also in Goodell. Nettie received her normal teaching certificate from Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls. She taught in the rural schools in Ell, Avery and Twin Lake Townships from 1918 until 1944.
October 29, 1919, she married Robert John Roths at the Methodist parsonage in Garner. They farmed in Hancock County until they retired and moved into Prairie View Apartments in Garner in 1965. She enjoyed her family, crocheting, embroidering, baby sitting and caring for others.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Goodell, Woman's Missionary Society and the Avery Township Jolly Worker's. She also was a Sunday School teacher for many years.
Survivors include her daughter, Marlene Lerdal and her husband, Ken of Thornton; seven grandchildren, Franklin Dean Roths, Jr., and his wife Mary Ann, Michael Wayne Roths and his wife, Sheri, Leanna Hergert and her husband, Galen, Verlinda Jean Ennen and her husband, Randy, Bobbie Jolene Carpenter and her husband, Bob, Danny Lynn Wagner and his wife, Debra and Robin Gale Roths; seven step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-
grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Roths, April 3, 1966; two sons, Franklin Dean Roths, April 15, 1965; and William Dale Roths, January 15, 1969, a grandson, Steven Dale Roths; her parents; a brother, Bernard Wayne Bachman; and two sisters, Wava Clossen and Mary "Bonnie" Warren.
