Mrs. Bertha Hollatz
1887-1984

Services for Mrs. Bertha Hollatz, 97, of Clear Lake, who died Tuesday, July 31 at Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake, were held 2 p.m., Friday, August 3 at, St. John's Lutheran Church northeast of Garner with Rev. Reynold Petersen as officiant.

Mrs. Roland Boehnke served as organist. Ushers were Elmer Jante, Warren Thada and Mark Boehnke.

Casketbearers were James Engels, Phil Reed, Gary DeGroote, Gary Young, Jerry Toppin and Steven Lemke. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Visitation was held at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner.

Mrs. Bertha Augusta Hollatz, the daughter of William and Augusta (Bohn) Bohn was born June 15, 1887 on a farm in Grant Township in Cerro Gordo County. She attended school in Grant Township and at St. John's Parochial School.

October 27, 1910 she was married to Henry G. Hollatz at St. John's Lutheran Church. They farmed all of their married life northwest of Ventura until 1945 when they retired and moved into Clear Lake.

She is survived by her children: Wilbur Hollatz of Clear Lake, Mrs. Lubbe (Edna) Albers of Clear Lake, Melvin Hollatz and his wife, Iva Bell of Clear Lake, Mrs. Edgar (Alma) Reed of Mason City, Mrs. Darrel (Pearl) DeGroote of Corwith, Mrs. Milvern (Ethel) Schoenwetter of Garner, Mrs. Raymond (Helen) Harms of Dubuque, Mrs. Byrnes (Stella) Lemke of Klemme and Mrs. Wayne (Ardith) Toppin of Ventura; 25 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Mrs. Clara Bohn of Ventura and Mrs. Alvina Hollatz of Kansas City, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry in 1970; a son, Ellsworth Hollatz in 1974; a daughter, Mrs. Frank (Edith) Poohl in 1976; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Julius Bohn, Edward Bohn and Herman Bohn; three sisters, Mrs. Clara Roefranz, Mrs. Helena Jass and Mrs. Emma Klock.
