CARRIE OLSON BOE LIVED HERE 76 YEARS

Miss Caroline Olson (Boe) was born in LaSalle Co., Ill., June 13, 1855, and died at the Sunset Home in Story City Monday, Feb. 12, 1934, at the age of 78 years. She was the third child of a family of eight children and the last one to pass away. Her parents, Lars Olson (Boe) and Ubjer (Ness) Olson, came to America from near Stavanger, Norway, in 1836. They settled in Norway, LaSalle county, Ill., and 22 years later, in 1857, the Olson family came to Hamilton county, Iowa, and settled on a farm 2 miles north of Story City.

Miss Olson was baptized by Rev. P. A. Rasmussen and confirmed by Rev. N. Amlund. She was only two years old when she came to Iowa, thus she had seen the neighborhood grow up from a wilderness into a well settled and cultured community.

May 10, 1927, she entered the Old People's Home at Story City, where she has lived since and where she received good care to the very last.

Miss Olson had a friendly mind and a helpful and willing heart. This was manifested in so many ways.

For many years she took care of her aged and feeble mother. No one but herself knew what work this was. And the beauty of it was that she never complained, but always found happiness in service and sacrifice.

She was an old member of the Elim church at Randall, and here, too her Christian spirit and service came to light. She loved the church and its missions, and was always willing to give and sacrifice, yes even to her own hurt. Her pastor told her several times not to be so liberal, because she might need the little money she had for herself, but she always answered: "Der vil nok bli en raad." And she was right. The Lord took care of her, so she did not become disappointed in her faith. And this willingness to give to the cause of God she kept up to the very last. When her pastor visited her a few days before she was taken ill, she gave him a dollar for missions. A dollar that she very likely had been given by some one else.

The funeral services were held Feb. 15. A short service was held at the Home in Story city, where the superintendent, A. C. Molstre, spoke, and Rev. Paulsrud thanked the Home for its friendliness and care of Miss Olson. The regular service was held from Elim church, Randall, where Rev. G. O. Paulsrud officiated and where a quartet rendered two musical numbers. A large audience, composed of relatives and friends, was present. Pall bearers were Lars Skeie, Lars Tjernagl, Albert Henderson, Ed Peterson, T. Z. Henryson and Andrew Owenson. Interment was made in the old Boe cemetery where so many of her dear ones have been laid to rest.
