Gustav S. Charlson Buried Monday

Gustav S. Charlson was born at the old Stone Charlson homestead, northeast of Randall, March 3rd, 1884, and died at the same place where he was born, raised and spent his lifetime on Sept. 28, 1933. At his death he was 49 years, 6 months and 25 days old.

He was the son of one of the oldest Norwegian pioneer families in Hamilton county, namely Stone (Kjeran) and Julia Charlson. Gustav's life was not as pleasant as the life of his many friends. For 30 years he was suffering from rheumatism which crippled his body considerably and made him until for any hard labor, but he carried the burden of a sick body with great patience. He did not complain nor show any displeasure, and this fortitude and faithfulness he manifested in many ways. He was a friend of children. He could be seen around the homestead and many times down by the river leading and taking care of his brother Austin's children. In him they had a true friend and a good care-taker. No doubt the children will miss him a great deal.

The last 12 years he lived with his brother Austin on the old homestead. Austin and his wife gave him a good home and cared for him very tenderly to the last. He was bedfast only a few days, but these few days were of intense suffering, but as usual he was patient and did not complain. Now his suffering is over, and with childlike faith and trust in Jesus he bid the world farewell. God bless his memory.

He leaves to mourn his departure the following brothers and sister, George of Cylinder, Lewis of Story City, Bert of Thor, Erick of Story City, Charles of Arizona, Austin of Story City, Mrs. Turina Kalvig of Chicago, Mrs. Bertha Williams of Huxley and Mrs. Selma Larson of Radcliffe.

Funeral services were held from Elim Lutheran church at Randall Monday, Oct. 2, Rev. G. O. Paulsrud officiated, and the choir rendered appropriate songs. Six of his nephews acted as pallbearers, and a great many relatives and friends were present to pay their respect to their friend.
