Obituary of Ole N. Hoveland

Ole N. Hoveland was born at Hoveland, Etne, Norway, March 27, 1860, and died December 18, 1927, at the Lutheran Hospital, Des Moines, Iowa, where a few days previously he had gone for consultation. He was at his death 67 years, 9 months old.

His death was due in part to heart trouble, but the main cause was a canceric condition of the abdomen, which culminated in a hemorrhage that snuffed out his life so quickly that his family were not able to reach him before he lost consciousness.

Mr. Hoveland came to America 45 years ago. He was then 22 years of age. Apart from short stays at Story City, Iowa, in Nebraska, and at Graettinger, Iowa, his whole life in this country was spent in and near Randall.

For some time he clerked in Peterson's store at Randall. Some 26 years ago he bought a farm on the outskirts of Randall, where he has lived since. The 26th of January, 1892, he was united in marriage to Miss Isabelle Jacobson of Randall. She suddenly passed to the Great Beyond February 5, 1914, at the age of 44 years.

Since the death of Mrs. Hoveland the oldest daughter, Ruth, had kept house for the family. Although she was but a mere child at the time of her mother's death, she assumed the task and we all know that she has succeeded and thus has been of great value and blessing to the family.

Mr. and Mrs. Hoveland were both converted some 16 years ago and we have the hope and belief that they have both gone home to a blessed reward. The Hovelands have for years been faithful members of the Elim Lutheran church at Randall.

The children, who are all of a mature age and who now mourn the loss of a dear mother and father are: Martin, Selmer, Ruth, Embert, Jeannette and
Newman; all living on the home farm with the exception of Selmer, who lives at Kenyon, Minn., and Jeannette, who is married and lives a few miles west of Randall. Mr. Hoveland also leaves two grandchildren, two brothers in Norway and two sisters in this country. The sisters are: Mrs. Anna Simonson of Graettinger and Mrs. A. Anderson of Story City.

The funeral was held Wednesday, Dec. 27, and a large number of relatives and friends of the deceased assembled to pay their last respects.
