Doug Clements, 69, of Menlo, Iowa, died Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at his residence in rural Menlo. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, September 29, 2012, at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset, Iowa with Pastor Jeff Banks officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery at Van Meter, Iowa.
Doug was born on June 3, 1943, at Lost Springs, Kansas to Francis and Martha (Swartz) Clements. After turning 18, he enlisted in the US Army and served from 1961 to 1997. During his life, Doug resided in several states before coming to the rural Greenfield/Menlo area in 1998. He had worked as a master carpenter and then a railroad maintainer before his retirement. He was a member of the V.F.W. Doug was married on October 20, 1991 at Las Vegas, Nevada, to Barbara Lee Harmon. He enjoyed woodworking, refurbishing old machinery, and tinkering as an auto mechanic.
Doug is survived by his wife, Barbara Clements of Menlo; children, Michael Clements, Scott Clements, Angela Clements, and Robin Clements all of Lakeland, FL; stepchildren, Lynnanne (Luke) Spencer of Halethorpe, MD, Drotha (MJ) Lawson of Graysonville, MD, Dreama Beswick of Greenfield, and James Collins of Baltimore, MD; brothers, Richard Clements of Salina, KS, Kenny (Carol) Clements of Salina, KS, and Clifford (Gayle) Clements of Herrington, KS; sister, Mary (Craig) Schrump of Blue Springs, MO; eight grandchildren and eight step-grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Martha (Swartz) Clements; brothers, Jerry and Tom; and sisters, Roselie, Shirley, and Sharon.
Memorials may be directed to his family for a future designation
