Thursday Jan 2, 1952Last rites were conducted December 27 in the Union church in Jamaica for Dr. William A. Seidler, The Rev. R.R. Eisenlauer, pastor of the church was in charge. Mrs. Fred McDonald played organ music. The Masonic service was in charge of members of Ensign Lodge No. 585 A F & A M of Jamaica.
Interment was in the Richland township cemetery. Honorary bearers were Dr. P.W. Beckman, Dr. W.V. Thornburg, F. L. Hoofnagle, Ernest Hanysh, Ed Garrity, Harry Towne, Bruce Towne and Fred Harvey. Casket bearers were Dr. C.A. Nicoll, Dr. G.R. Whisler, Wendell Jones, N.P. Black, R.E. Woltz and Glenn McCall.
OBITUARY
DR. William A. Seidler
William A. Seidler, son of William and Mary Gertiz Seidler, was born on March 23, 1878, at Minburn Iowa and Passed away at his home in Jamaica on December 24, 1951, at the age of 73 years, nine months and one day.
He was one of a family of three children. He was a graduate of the Minburn High school, later attending Drake University in Des Moines where he received his pre-medic course and was a graduate of the St. Louis College of Physicians and Surgeons. He then took graduate work in Berlin, Germany, Vienna, Austria and in New York. He practiced medicine for one year in St. Louis before coming to Jamaica where he has been for the past 50 years.
On June 29, 1916, he was united in marriage to Ethel Knapp at Colfax, Iowa. To this union were born two children.
He was a member of the Temperance Lodge of Minburn; Ensign Lodge no 585 of Jamaica; Consistory of Des Moines; Royal Arch Commandery of Jefferson; Za-Ga-Zig Shrine of Des Moines; Order of the Eastern Star of Jamaica; the Elk Lodge of Perry; a life member of the American Medical association; the Iowa State Medical Society and past president of the Dallas-Guthrie Medical Society.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, his two sisters, Mrs. Alfred (Minnie) Raynor and Mrs. Ray (Ada) Gribben.
Those surviving are his wife, his son, Dr. William A. Seidler, Jr., Jamaica; his daughter Mr. Fred (Betty) Homann of Des Moines; four grandchildren; one neice, Mrs. Wilma Olson of Stromsburg, Nebr.; one nephew, Bergen Raynor of Perry; other relatives and many friends.
