Born March 3, 1937 in Beaman, IA, the son of Ingwald and Opal Sandstoe, Dean lived his childhood years in Beaman, helping his parents operate their corn-shelling business, a full service gas station and working on their farm.
Following graduation from Beaman high school in 1955, Dean joined the US Navy. Upon completing basic training, he was assigned a position in the electrical department of the aircraft carrier USS Hornet. He served his enlistment on the carrier, rising to the rank of Second Class Petty Officer. Degree in Business Management in 1969. Dean joined the staff of Des Moines Child and Adolescent Guidance Center as an Administrative Manager, a position he held for over 20 years. This work effort was widely recognized within the service community.
Dean served several years on the financial committee of the United Way of Central Iowa. He was a member of the CMHC Data Committee.
Dean is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Christine Sandstoe Burton. He is survived by a brother, Gerald, of San Diego, California, and several nieces and nephews.
