Tillie Buchan Services Held

Tillie Buchan, 82, of Grundy Center, passed away Saturday, December 16, at Sartori Hospital in Cedar Falls.

Funeral services were held at Bethany Presbyterian Church, Grundy Center, on Wednesday, December 20, at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Calvin W. Vanderwerf and the Rev. L. John Gable officiated.

Mr. Kenny Frette sang "In The Garden" and "The Lord's Prayer." He was accompanied by Mrs. T. J. Heronimus, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

Casket bearers were Doug Buchan, Dan Buchan, Scott Buchan, Shannon Buchan, DeWayne Jacobson, Marty VanHorn and Steve Buchan.

Edward Flater and Vernon Kruger were ushers. Mrs. Vernon Kruger and Mrs. Art Henze were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center.

Tillie Buchan, daughter of Abraham and Anna Bleeker Thoren, was born July 24, 1907, in Grundy Center. Tillie grew up and was educated in Grundy county.

On July 25, 1924, Tillie was united in marriage to George Alexander Buchan. They made their home in Grundy Center. Tillie worked as a material cutter at Hinson Manufacturers from 1953 until her retirement in 1969. She was affiliated with Bethany Presbyterian Church.

Tillie was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, George Jr. and Dean; her parents; eight brothers; and four sisters.

She is survived by six sons, Ray, Vernon, Paul, Ronald, Jerry, and Larry, all of Waterloo; three daughters, Mrs. Richard (LaVon) Messersmith, Salt Lake City, UT, Mrs. Donald (Norma) Jacobson, Waterloo, and Mrs. Richard (Kay) VanHorn, Waterloo; 29 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lee Thoren and LeRoy Thoren, both of Grundy Center; and two sisters, Margaret Bowers, Grundy Center, and Dorothy Weigand, of Iowa City.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
