Mrs. Elsie Hess Is Called

Passed Away at Her Home in Conrad Sunday

Elsie Gertrude Lind was born Dec. 13, 1878, near Greenfield, Iowa, and departed this life in her home at Conrad, Iowa, Sept. 16, 1923.

At three years of age she was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Gilbert and was educated in the Greenfield public school, afterward teaching school for several years. June 10, 1902, she was united in marriage to John M. Hess. To this union six children were born; three daughters and one son survive her.

Early in life the deceased united with the Presbyterian church of Greenfield and later transferred her membership to the Conrad Presbyterian church where she held it until death. She lived a quiet christian life caring for her family. Her greatest ambition was that her children might have an education and that they might be thoroughly drilled in the teachings of the Sunday school and church.

On account of the quarantine that had just been lifted from her own home for scarlet fever the funeral was held from the home of Mrs. F. C. Hess. Rev. Baker conducted the services, assisted by Rev. Byler. Miss Grace Gustavson sang. The pall bearers were brothers-in-law and nephews of the deceased.

Mrs. Hess had been a victim of diabetes for over a year, but was bedfast but one day.

Interment was made in the Alice cemetery.
