Thursday, May 22nd, 1924Richard Martin was born in Bailey, Gawley, Ireland, May 7, 1830, and came to America at the age of twenty-one.
He spent a number of years in the east. In 1872 he and his family came west and located on a farm near Farragut and he followed the farming business until his death on May 9, 1924, at the age of 94 years and 2 days.
His wife preceded him 1 month and 27 days ago. He leaves to mourn him four children, W. R. of Shenandoah, Sarah, a teacher in Shenandoah, Addie, a teacher in Anita, and Clara, who has been caring for her parents.
In the passing of Mr. Martin this vicinity loses one of its oldest and most honored citizens and christian.
Funeral services were held Sunday at the Congregational church, conducted by Rev. E. L. Anderson. Interment was made in the Farragut Cemetery by the side of his wife.
