The news of the death of grandfather Manrose early Sunday morning came as a surprise to most of our citizens. Although in poor health for several years, yet it was not generally known that he was so much worse again and it was learned that he had not been until two or three days before his death.

David Platt Manrose was born October 2, 1831, at Mansfield, Ohio, being 77 years, 6 months, and 9 days old at the time of his death. Here he lived until a young man when he moved to Illinois and there was married December 11, 1851, to Miss Sibbilla Ssangler. Eleven children were born to them, four dying in infancy. Those living, three boys and three girls are Chas. and Bert Manrose of Riverton; Mrs. Emma Garwood, Nebraska City; Mrs. Foneine Rivett, Springfield, Oregon; Mrs. Sibbie Maguire, Atchinson, Kansas; Dudley Manrose, Lawrence, Kansas; and Tom Manrose of Brock, Nebraska.

The family moved to Riverton in 1874 where Mr. Manrose has continually lived for about 35 years. The wife and mother died about 2 years ago.

Mr. Manrose enlisted in Company I, 72nd, Illinois Infantry, August 15, 1862, and was discharged on account of disability October 18, 1862.

The funeral services were held at the home Monday at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Harris, of the G. A. R., and six war Veterans acting as pall bearers. A quartet of voices sang appropriate songs and many friends and neighbors were present to pay respects to the departed and the sorrowing relatives. Interment was made in the Riverton Cemetery.
