LEFEVER, SHERRELL, DUKE, HUGHES, LUTZ

John M. LeFever, 87, Civil War veteran, a resident of Nebraska City for nearly a year, died at his home in that city Tuesday night at 9:45 from a heart attack. He had eaten supper with the family but was stricken shortly after 6:00 and lived but a short time.

Mr. LeFever was born in Shelby County, Ohio, May 23, 1845. At the age of 16 he enlisted in the Eleventh Iowa Volunteers and served until December 31, 1863, when he was discharged at Vicksburg, Mississippi. The following day he re-enlisted, was made a corporal and served until his final discharge July 15, 1865, at Louisville, Kentucky. During his service of more than four and one-half years he took part in many engagements, including the siege of Vicksburg and Sherman's march to the sea. He was never wounded.

Mr. LeFever had spent most of his life in Fremont County where he was engaged in farming near Randolph. In 1917 he moved out to Sherman County, Nebraska, and to Nebraska City last March.

In 1884 he was married to Miss Mary L. Sherrell at Percival. He was a member of the Methodist Church and of the Grand Army of the Republic.

He is survived by his widow and the following children; Mrs. Maude Duke of Shenandoah, John LeFever of Randolph, Ed LeFever of Rockville, Nebraska, Mrs. Elsie Hughes of Dorchester, Nebraska, Mrs. Pansy Lutz of Nebraska City, Floyd F. LeFever of Bridgeport, Nebraska. Grandchildren number fourteen.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 Friday at Porter's Funeral Home in Nebraska City. The body will be taken to Randolph Methodist Church where a second service will be held at 2:00. Interment in the Randolph Cemetery.
