The Fremont County Herald, published in Sidney, Iowa
Thursday, October 12th, 1916

Peter Koch was born in Wilhelm, Baden, Germany, October 4, 1833, and died at his home three and one-half miles south of Sidney, October 5, 1916, being 83 years and 1 day old at the time of his death.

The deceased came to America in 1855, landing at New York City, where he remained for one year, after which he went to St. Louis, Missouri, where he lived for about eight years. During his stay in the above named city he first met and was united in marriage to Anna Sharp. To this union two sons and three daughters were born, two daughters and one son having died at an early age. The wife and mother died December 6, 1911.

The subject of this sketch was confirmed in the German Lutheran Church in his native country at the age of 16, and lived faithful to his vows to God and the church. During his residence in the city of St. Louis he enlisted as a soldier in the Civil War to defend the Stars and Stripes in his adopted country, serving for three years and three months. At the close of the war he moved with his family to Fremont County, Iowa, where he has resided ever since.

The deceased was honest and industrious, and by strict economy provided for the needs of those dependent upon him. He was a good citizen and commanded the respect of the people in the community where he has lived so long.

There remains to mourn the loss of a kind and devoted father, Mrs. C. S. Williams of Arlington, Nebraska, and John Koch, who with his wife has cared for the aged father for the past five years. To the son and daughter we express our sympathy and point them to the loving Heavenly Father who alone can give them the grace and comfort which they need.

Funeral services were held from the Baptist Church at Sidney on Saturday, October 7, at 10 o'clock a. m. conducted by the pastor, Rev. J. P. Thomas.
