After suffering for some time J. W. Mapes departed this life Nov. 17, 1898. Mr. Mapes had nearly reached the allotted time to man on earth, being 67 years old at the time of his death.He had lived in this and surrounding country the most of his life. Besides leaving a large family, he left a large circle of friends whose heartfelt sympathy is extended to them in this dark hour.
The funeral was held Sunday at the Mt. Olive church, being preached by Rev. Ames after which the remains were laid to rest in the Mt. Olive cemetery to await the resurrection of the just.
