Steven Duane Hansen 1959-2021

Steven Duane Hansen was born on September 15, 1959, in Estherville, Iowa to William James and Evelyn Ardell Hansen.
He was raised on a farm about 3 miles west of Ringsted, Iowa until his family moved into town in 1978. Steven started attending ECHO (Emmet County Handicap Organization) in Estherville in the late 1960ís and early 1970ís and eventually graduated from Estherville High School in May of 1980. He passed away peacefully at his house in Estherville on Monday, April 19, 2021 at the age of 61 years old.
In 1983, Steven moved to Estherville into the ECHO Group Home with many of his friends until the late 1990ís when he made the move to a house with four of his close friends. ECHO was eventually bought by Hope Haven where Steven worked until his retirement around 2010. Steven then attended Dayhab (Day Habilitation) within the Hope Haven community up until his passing.
Steven had a highly active social life. He was active in his church at Trinity Lutheran and within the Estherville community. Steven loved to dance, sing, golf, bowl, fish, and participated in Special Olympics where he won many gold medals over the years. But his all-time favorite thing to do was to watch All Star Wrestling (WWE or WWF), which he would do every night. Early in his life, Steven loved to ride his Moped around Ringsted, where he would stop and talk to many of the residents, even if he did not know who you were, you were going to get to know Steven and probably receive a huge hug as well. He was extremely outgoing!
Left to cherish Stevenís memory are his sisters, Judy Johnson and her husband Terry of Armstrong,Iowa, Kathy Johnson and her husband, Steve of Big Lake, Minnesota, his brothers Bill Hansen of Ringsted, Brian Hansen and his wife, Michele of Rosemount, Minnesota, and a sister-in-law, Diane Hansen of Castle Rock, Colorado. He was surrounded by many loving nieces and nephews.
Steven was proceeded in death by his parents; William and Evelyn and two brothers; Dennis & Gary and sister-in-law, Diane as well as his Grandparents.
A funeral service was held Friday, April 23, 2021 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Estherville with interment at the Ringsted Memorial Cemetery, Ringsted, Iowa.
