Charles Weir, 86, Succumbs Sunday at Graettinger
Graettinger – Charles Edward Weir, 86, died at 10:15 a.m. Jan. 9, 1972, at his home in Graettinger of a heart condition. He had been ill about nine months.

He was born Dec. 20, 1885, in Toledo, Iowa. He was educated in Tama County.

He was married Feb. 19, 1914, to Rose Barnheart. They moved to Palo Alto county where he farmed until retiring and moving to town.

He was a member of Graettinger United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Frank (Irene) Elwood of Agilvie [Ogilvie], Minn., Mrs. David (Bernice) Towers of Pittsburgh, Calif., and Mrs. J. L. (Ida) Shaw of Antioch, Calif. There are 13 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Methodist Church with the Rev. Harlan Babcock officiating. Fuhrman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be at High Lake Cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Tuesday until time of services. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 10, 1972)

Charles Weir Succumbs
Charles Edward Weir, 86, died at his home January 9 at 10:15 a.m. at Graettinger.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Harlan Babcock officiating.

Burial was at High Lake Cemetery, east of Graettinger with Fuhrman’s Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Weir was born December 20, 1885 [Per WWI draft record 1881, however, 1885 census show “0 years”] at Toledo, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Benton Weir. He was educated in Tama County and married Rose A. Barnheart [Barnhart] on February 19, 1914, at her home in Emmet County. He resided in Palo Alto County for 55 years and was a farmer until his retirement.

He was a member of the Graettinger United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his widow; three daughters, Mrs. Frank (Irene) Elwood of Ogilvie, Minn., Mrs. David (Berniece) Towers, Pittsburg, Calif., Mrs. J.L. (Ida) Schaw, Antioch, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and 34 great grandchildren. (Graettinger Times, Graettinger, IA, January 13, 1972)
