Estherville – Lloyd Albert Rockne, 78, Estherville, died Tuesday [October 20, 1981] at Holy Family Hospital, Estherville.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Henry and Olson Funeral Home, Estherville, with interment to follow at the High Lake Cemetery, rural Wallingford. Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Thursday.

The son of Lars and Ingeborg (Hanson) Rockne, he was born Sept. 30, 1903, in High Lake Township in Emmet County. He was educated in the country schools in the county, and in 1915 moved with his parents to Mora, Minn., where he attended high school.

He moved back to Estherville in 1927 and operated a dairy and also the Rockne Oil Company before going into farming. He also worked for DEK Rural Electric for a number of years until his retirement. He remained single throughout his life.

Mr. Rockne was a veteran of World War II, during which he served in the U.S. Navy in the African and Pacific theatres. He was a member of the Estherville VFW Post 3388, where he was active in a number of offices. He was a past state commander of the VFW and held several appointed positions on the national level for the VFW.

He also was a member of the First Church of Christian Science, the Wallingford American Legion and the Sons of Norway.

Survivors include two brothers, Obert Rockne, Estherville; and Cert [Kert] Rockne, Casa Grande, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 22, 1981)
