John A. Olson 1895-1919

The name of John A. Olson should be added to the list of those who died in service. He died in France afflicted with pneumonia on Feb. 16, 1919. He was at the front 126 days from July 12th. No information is at hand except from a letter from him published in this paper on Feb. 5th. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, April 2, 1919)

Memorial services for John Olson were held Sunday afternoon at three o’clock, in the High Lake church. The choir of the Wallingford church was in charge of the music, and the service was conducted by Rev. t. Hansen assisted by Magnus Wolden. The gold star was pinned on the service flag by a brother, Andrew Olson, who returned from France a week ago. John Olson was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Olson of Jack Creek township. He went to France about a year ago and in February his parents received word that he had died in a hospital in France from pneumonia. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, July 2, 1919)
