Obituary of Mrs. Neilson
Catherine Hagarty was born in Limerick, Ireland, in 1841, and departed this life on March 3, 1919, at the age of 78 years. She came to Canada when a child of thirteen. She was married to John Neilson in 1860. To this union eleven children were born – four girls and seven boys. Her husband and two sons – James and Fred, preceded her to the great beyond in 1916 and one son died in infancy. She leaves to mourn her loss Elizabeth Neilson of this place, Mrs. Belle Timmins of Prairie City, Annie Carsan of Melcher, Maggie Van Maren of Rummels [Runnels], John of Carmen, Canada, William of Slayton, Minnesota and Robert and Frank of this place. She is also survived by 27 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She came with her husband and family from Canada in 1885, locating at Prairie City and resided there for 24 years. From there she came to northern Iowa where the family has since resided. She was a good wife and a kind mother and will be greatly missed by her children.

The Times extends sincere sympathy to the sorrowing relatives in the deep affliction that has come to their home. (Graettinger Times, Graettinger, IA, March 20, 1919)
