Paul Hilkers [Hilker] Dies
Paul HIlkers, 74, who has been a resident of Jack Creek township for the past 35 years, died Sunday [December 2, 1934] morning at the Coleman hospital. He had been receiving attention at the hospital for the past three months.

Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 1:30 from the Sternborg funeral home chapel with the Rev. Otis Lang officiating. Burial will be at High Lake.

Paul Hilkers was born in Westphalia, Germany, in 1860 [per gravestone 1859] and came to the United States when a young man. For years he worked for N.F. Bigelow on a farm in Jack Creek township. When the Bigelow family moved to Estherville he began working on the Tom Nivison farm. For the past few years he has been living on his two acre tract in Hoprig.

With the exception of two nieces in New York City Mr. Hilkers had no relatives in the United States. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, December 4, 1934)
