Wallingford Services for Mrs. Sylvester (Olga) Berge, 73, Wallingford, will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Immanuel Lutheran Church, South of Gruver, with Pastor Michael Bennett officiating. Interment will be in High Lake Cemetery. [dod January 9, 1982]

Friends may call at the Henry and Olson Funeral Home in Estherville after 2 p.m. Monday.

Olga Handeland was born Jan. 27, 1908 the daughter of Bert and Belle (Severied) Handeland, and lived on farms in Jack Creek Township. She attended and graduated from Estherville schools. On Oct. 23, 1926 she married Melvin Christian at Estherville, he died in 1955; on Dec. 28, 1963 she was married to Sylvester Berge in the Immanuel Lutheran Church. They have lived near Wallingford since their marriage.

She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, was choir director for over 20 years, taught Sunday School; was a charter member of Ibsen Chapter of Sons of Norway; a member of the Emmet County Historical Society and active in the Ingham Lake Bible Camp.

She is survived by her husband, Sylvester of Wallingford; one son Loren Christian, Ann Arbor, Mich.; two daughters, Mrs. Rolland (Delores) Fox, Titonka, Mrs. Don (Arlene) Hockett, Estherville; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Viola West, Wallingford and Mrs. Janice Vick [Vik], Stonewall, Texas; 17 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; one brother, Melvin Handeland, Newton; three sisters, Mrs. Helen Franks, Estherville, Mrs. Esther Griffith, Newton, Mrs. Mabel Cupples, Newton.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, one son, one grandchild, parents, three brothers and two sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 11, 1982)
