Estherville – Services for Sylvia Otelia Berge, 93, will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church south of Gruver with Pastor William Runaas, Jr., officiating. Interment will be in High Lake Cemetery at Wallingford. She died Wednesday, March 18, 1992 at Good Samaritan Center.

Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home of Estherville is in charge of arrangements.

She was born June 18, 1898 in Emmet County, Iowa, the daughter of Lewis and Berthina (Edwinson) Berge and attended country school. She attended Waldorf College, Redwing Lutheran Academy, Lutheran Bible Institute, Augsberg College and received a Masters Degree from the University of Minnesota. She taught in Emmet County schools, Lake Mills, Augustana Academy in Canton, S.D. a number of years also vacation Bible school and Sunday School at Immanuel Lutheran many years. In the late 1930s she began service as a missionary for the World Mission Prayer League and lived in Bolivia for 23 years. She also lived in Nogales, Mex. Before returning to Estherville area 10 years ago. She never married and was a lifetime member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Survivors include one brother, Sylvester Berge, Wallingford; two sisters: Mrs. Lloyd (Olivia) Gardner, Cedar Falls and Mrs. Malvina Kronstad, Aitken, Minn.; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 21, 1992)
