Death of Mrs. Lyman Dillon
AN EARLY SETTLOR GONEMrs. Charlotte Dillon died at her residence in Cascade early Tuesday morning, April 22, 1890, aged 69 years. The deceased had been ill for a long time and her death was not an unexpected event. Mrs. Dillon was among the very early settlors of Dubuque County, having been a resident of the county for 55 years. Her maiden name was Charlotte Winchell and was born near Binghampton, N.Y., April 25, 1821, and came to Dubuque with her parents in 1835, she was married to the Hon. Lyman Dillon, April 12, 1841, and for a short time located in Jones county, subsequently locating on what is known as the Dillon farm where she resided until 1859, except temporarily at Iowa City, where Mr. Dillon was completing a contract on the State Capitol.
Her husband, the Hon. Lyman Dillon, who represented Dubuque County in the Fourth General Assembly of Iowa, died Dec. 8, 1857. In 1859 she removed to Cascade where she resided up until the time of her death.
She was a lady highly respected in the community. She was a member of the Baptist church. There survive her of her family, Mrs. C. F. Crawford, Mrs. James McCue and Mrs. George Parrott of Dubuque. Mrs. B. F. Skinner and Alvin W. Dillon of Manchester. Of her brothers and sisters who survive her are Mrs. Sidney Counselman, Mrs. Thomas Fitzsimmons and David Winchell of Jefferson, Charles Winchell of Exira, Mrs. Johnson Bucknam of Greenwood, California, Lyman, A. V. Winchell of Nebraska, and Lyman Winchell. The obsequies took place on Thursday with funeral services at the Baptist church. The Rev. J. W. Beatty officiating.
