DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Donald L. Fettkether, 77, of Dyersville, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2006, at home, following a lengthy battle with cancer.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with the Rev. Kopacek officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 137. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a parish scripture service at 4 p.m. and an American Legion service at 7 p.m.

He was born on July 30, 1928, in Massillon, son of Louis and Izel (Wolfe) Fettkether. He married Bonita "Bonnie" Mumby on Oct. 5, 1950, in Marengo.

He was a graduate of St. Clements High School, Bankston.

He served in the Army during the Korean War.

He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 137.

Mr. Fettkether started as a buttermaker in 1953. He worked at Hickory Valley Creamery, Bankston, Bottineau Creamery, N.D., Hillsmans Dairy, Marengo, the Cascade Creamery, and Golden Star Creamery, Dyersville.

In 1958, Don became a business owner of Fett's Meadow Gold Dairy, Dyersville. In the 1960s, Don expanded his business to include Fett's L.P. Gas Service. In following years, he was a distributor for Swiss Valley and Tegeler's Dairy. He retired from home milk delivery in 1991.

Don's hobbies were mushroom and turtle hunting, antiques, garage sales, traveling and playing cards.

Surviving are his wife, Bonnie; two sons, Robert, of El Cajon, Calif., and Charles (Linda), of Iowa City; two daughters, Linda (George) LeMay, of Worthington, and Kathy (Randy) Harter, of Dyersville; six grandchildren, Matthew (Krystal) Fettkether, Jesse (Stephanie) Fettkether, Joshua Fettkether, Brenda (Brian) Stelken, Jeffrey LeMay and Brian Steger; four great-grandchildren, Kylee and Madison Fettkether and Nathan and Nicholas Stelken; a brother, Dr. Kenneth (Lois) Fettkether, of Marengo; and a sister-in-law, Mary Alice Fettkether, of Dyersville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Izel; two sons, David Wayne and James Allen; and a brother, Howard Fettkether.
