EPWORTH, Iowa - Joseph P. Delaney, 87, of 22375 East Pleasant Grove Road, Epworth, died at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Catholic Church, Placid, rural Epworth. Burial will be in the church cemetery, where there will be a flag presentation by the John White American Legion Post 650. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Epworth, where there will be a wake service at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Delaney farmed his whole life in the Placid area.

He was born on Jan. 18, 1913, in Placid, son of Peter and Mary (Waddick) Delaney.

He received his education in the St. John's School, Placid. He was a World War II Army veteran, having served with the 9th Armored Division. He was a member of St. John's Parish, Placid.

Surviving are a brother, Howard (Donna) Delaney, of Placid; two sisters, Bertilla McDermott, of Dubuque, and Helen (Martin) Kennedy, of Epworth; and two sisters-in-law, Virginia Delaney, of Epworth, and Eileen George, of San Benito, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Merlin and Martin; and a sister, Viola McDermott.

A Joseph P. Delaney Memorial Fund has been established.
