Clem H. "Hike" McDermott, 69, of Heritage Manor, formerly of 2916 Jackson St., died after a long battle with cancer at 5:20 a.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2000, at Heritage Manor.

Chapel services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where friends may call from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 6 of Dubuque.

Mr. McDermott worked with Avenarius and Sons Movers for 13 years until his retirement.

He was born on July 22, 1930, in Dubuque, son of Henry and Mary (Chase) McDermott.

He served with the Army during the Korean conflict. He enjoyed playing cribbage, fishing and camping.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara J. (Heim) McDermott; two daughters, Tammy L. Heim, at home, and Jacqui Maltby, of Robinsville, N.J.; two sons, Ronald (Joelle) Roets, of Davenport, Iowa, and Anthony Kux, of Ellisville, Miss.; two sisters; two brothers; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by six sisters.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque, 2255 Kennedy Road, Dubuque, Iowa 52001, and Finley Home Health Care, 350 N. Grandview Ave., Dubuque, Iowa 52001.
